Plate XI. The label is a set of coordinates. They resolve to open water.
A chameleon — the creature that becomes its ground — pilots a small striped dirigible across a Mercator grid, navigating a map that is all measure and no territory. Of the thirteen this is the one that kept traveling: eleven years on it surfaces again as the Cantus Doria, the same craft under a name it had not yet earned. The coordinates in the label lead nowhere on any chart. The specimen went there anyway.
