Plate VII. The label is legible but wrong — a species-name in no taxonomy I can trace.
A sloth carries a wicker cage the size and shape of a world, in no hurry to arrive anywhere the world is going. A dandelion clock keeps the season at one margin; a bee visits it. The alchemical vessel at the right bears a hand-inked label, the only confident writing on the plate, naming a substance that does not exist. This is the specimen that measures time by how slowly it can be crossed. The false name may be the truest thing here.
