Plate II. The caption is water-stained; only the verb survives — "…offers…"
An anthropomorphic hare balances the whole plate on one wheel and extends a turtle on a platter, as though the slow thing were the course being served. At the left margin, a bee opened into its own anatomy; at the right, an hourglass keyed to no element I can name. The offering is the specimen's entire grammar: here, take the unhurried one. Whether it is a gift or a test, the lost key does not say.
